He couldn't quite not sigh. "Yeah, well. Things aren't exactly going in our favor. And now it looks like I have a hard couple of days ahead of me." But Ben was right there. In front of him.
Too bad they were in a storage room.
Ben reached out and touched his belly, just above his utility belt. "You have that charity race against the firefighters this weekend, right?"
"Uh-huh." Unless he got called in. He didn't really think about that, though, not with Ben touching him. So, so close. He was getting hard. "Are you going to come watch?"
"I was hoping I could. Hope Park at noon, right?"
Tim was pretty sure he hadn't told Ben that; he'd obviously gone to the effort of finding out when it was. He nodded, not looking away. "Yeah. That's the start for my leg -- I'm on day two. I'll be there early." He licked his lips, his mouth suddenly bone dry. "I really should go. Um. We should. There's information I need." Or, he added mentally, I'll wind up throwing you against the door right now. That'll really piss Stacey off.
Ben nodded, fingers curling and then dropping away. "I'll carry the box out to your car."
"Thanks." Tim made himself breathe and hoped to God that his trousers were hiding what he was packing. "The addresses and stuff are on your desk?"
"Yeah. The files are all together." Ben bent to grab the box, and Tim had to remind himself what was in it to keep from rubbing up against Ben's ass.
"Are you -- never mind." He knew exactly what Ben was doing that night, and logically he himself would be working pretty intensely until at least nine or ten. "I miss you."
"Good. I mean, I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling that way." Ben rolled his eyes. "That didn't come out right. Come on, this is surprisingly heavy."
"Next time we try to block out time, tell Stacey to piss off, okay?" There, he'd said it. He'd probably just lost his one remaining chance, probably just ruined everything, but he'd said it.
"Huh? She's not coming to the race with me." Ben looked honestly confused and utterly worn out.
"Good." Tim sighed and let it go. He'd try again later. "I'll grab the files off your desk." He opened the door and hoped to hell that he wasn't about to bang into anyone with it as he moved to let Ben out with the box.
Stacey was coming out of Ben's office, the files in her hand. She offered them over with a tight smile. "I'm sorry, Tim. I know you're here to help, and you didn't deserve the crap I gave you.
I'm just so damn angry."
